FRISCO - The 2018 Generation adidas Cup picked back up after a rained out Tuesday and Wednesday with a big day for the U-17 and U-12 Academy teams.
U-17s Advance to Fifth Place Match
After missing out on the Championship Division Semifinal on Monday, the U-17s rebounded in the 5-8 bracket with a 1-0 win over New York City FC to fight for fifth place coming up on Saturday.
Head coach Luchi Gonzalez dressed a much different lineup than in previous group stage matches, but still managed to top the best MLS Academy left in the top flight. Kameron Lacey scored the lone goal in the 45th minute for the 17s as they closed out the match at home over the remaining 25 minutes.
The U-17s will face Eintracht Frankfurt for fifth place on Saturday at 3:30 PM on Toyota Soccer Center Field 4.
U-12s Begin GA Cup Play with Win and Loss
The youngest Academy group opened up their six-match account on Thursday with a win and a loss on day one of the U-12 bracket.
Dallas began the afternoon with a come-from-behind win over Columbus Crew SC, allowing an early goal before rebounding with a Jack Minsky goal before half and a Gabrial Brandon brace in the second half to take a 3-1 result.
Just two hours later, the youngsters were back at it against the San Jose Earthquakes U-12s, dropping a 1-0 game to close out their opening day.
FCD will face the Philadelphia Union and Sporting KC U-12s on Friday at 9 AM and 12:20 PM at the Toyota Soccer Center
