After scoring twice in the tournament and leading the U.S. Under-19 Men’s National Team to the 2016 Slovakia Cup championship after defeating Russia in the final with a 2-1 scoreline, FC Dallas Academy midfielder Weston McKennie was named Player of the Tournament.
McKennie scored his team's fourth goal on an assist from Hugo Arellano in the first match of the tournament, a 5-1 victory against Georgia. He also grabbed the first goal of the second match in the 27th minute with help from Isaiah Young, which the U.S. won 2-1.
Weston started and captained the U-19s in the final, where his team came back from behind to win 2-1 against Russia. In the 14th minute, only a minute after Russia scored the 1-0, Nelson Hunsinger tied the game when he was put through by Brandon Vasquez. Vazquez also assisted the U.S.'s second goal of the night too, as Pierre Da Silva scored what eventually would be the championship winner for the USYNT in the 66th minute.
FC Dallas Academy center back Hector Montalvo also started for the U-19s, while FCD teammate keeper Ben Hale was an unused sub on the bench, but saw playing timeearlier in the tournament.
