ACADEMY | Five FCD alumni still alive in College Cup

College Cup

It's getting down to the nitty gritty in the NCAA College Cup as the women's tournament has reached the semifinals while the men are into the quarterfinals.

There are still five FC Dallas players remaining as the college soccer season winds down so let's take a look!

Sarah Ashley Firstenberg - University of North Carolina

A senior forward, Firstenberg has appeared in every match for the Tar Heels this season as a spark off the bench with two goals and two assists on the year. She played 29 minutes in Friday's 1-0 quarterfinal win over South Carolina. This is UNC's 27th appearance in the national semifinals, though their first since 2012. They'll battle #1 seed West Virginia in the semifinals at 4:00PM on Friday in Santa Clara, California. The match can be seen on ESPNU.

Ryan Barlow - University of Denver

Barlow and the University of Denver continued their unlikely run through the NCAA playoffs last weekend defeating Washington 2-0 in Denver to advance to the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time since 1970. Barlow contributed 24 minutes off the bench in the round of 16 win. The Pioneers will travel to face #3 seed Clemson in the national quarterfinal on Sunday at 5:00PM.

Giovanni Montesdeoca & Martin Salas - University of North Carolina

Montesdeoca and Salas, two of the younger players on the squad, have not featured this season but the Tar Heels are rolling in to the national quarterfinals. For the seventh time in the last nine years, UNC reaches the quarterfinals with a 1-0 win over Syracuse on Sunday. Freshman Jeremy Kelly gave the Tar Heels the only goal they'd need to secure the victory. They'll host cinderella story Providence in the quarterfinals.

Charlie Furrer - Stanford University

The defending national champions found an extra time goal to defeat Virginia 1-0 and advance to the quarterfinals. They'll play at Louisville in a #4 vs #5 matchup. One of the backup goalkeepers, Furrer has not played this season for Stanford.
