2017 Power Rankings: Week Three

0318 Group celebration

Three weeks into the MLS season and it’s been three strong showings for FC Dallas (2-0-1). Resiliency seems to be the key word that comes to mind when describing Oscar Pareja’s side and it was on display in FCD’s come from behind 2-1 win over New England.

Maxi Urruti netted a brace and subsequently earned MLS Player of the Week honors.

Here’s how FC Dallas fared across the Week 3 power rankings

MLS Power Rankings

  1. FC Dallas
  2. Portland Timbers
  3. Toronto FC

FC Dallas stays on top.

“Short rest, subs, starters, leading, playing from behind … Whatever the situation, FC Dallas stays producing results. Don’t get mad, get on board.”

ESPNFC Power Rankings

  1. Portland Timbers
  2. FC Dallas
  3. Toronto FC

The top two spots remain the same.

“Back at close-to-full strength in league play, Dallas looked fatigued against the New England Revolution following their CONCACAF Champions League win over Pachuca at midweek, but still managed to pull off a 2-1 win at home.”

  1. FC Dallas
  2. Portland Timbers
  3. Atlanta United FC

Again, FC Dallas stays on top. The big mover? Atlanta who jumped five spots to number three.

“It’s early in the season, but Dallas’s form has been simply ridiculous. Not only has Oscar Pareja’s side opened the season with seven points of a possible nine, but it has done so while playing (and winning) in midweek CONCACAF Champions League games. Everybody is chipping in, including Maxi Urruti, who had two goals in Saturday’s 2–1 win over New England.”

  3. Toronto FC

Two more goals provided more angst for those Timbers’ fans who were disappointed when Max Urruti departed. He equalized after Michael Barrios ran down a long ball and the ball bounced free from a goalkeeper challenge, and struck the winner after picking an opponent’s pocket.

The FIFA break is upon with 16 of MLS’ 22 teams taking a break this week. Of course there is little rest for FC Dallas who leave for Mexico on March 29 to prepare for the club’s April 4th CONCACAF semifinal matchup against Pachuca. Their next MLS game is April 8 vs Minnesota.
