STORY LINES

Pushing Forward

North Texas SC return home after picking up a major win on the road against the current 9th seed in the Western Conference, Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2. North Texas controlled the game retaining 64% possession throughout and completing 506 total passes. Even with all the control, it was a tightly contested game until the breakthrough came with a José Mulatosolo goal in the 82nd minute. Mulato’s goal was not only significant for himself (team high eight goals this season) but also for North Texas who’s playoff hopes were kept alive after defeating a higher seeded opponent. Goalkeeper Antonio Carrera also had a standout performance against Whitecaps FC 2, registering a game and career high 10 saves en route to his third shutout of the season for North Texas. North Texas SC will need all hands on deck in their upcoming match as they take on the number one seeded Colorado Rapids 2.

Player to Watch

Last match forward José Mulato recorded his team-high eighth goal this season in an eventual 1-0 victory on the road over Tacoma Defiance. The individual goal scored in the 82nd minute of the last game serves as Mulato’s 11th goal contribution which is by far the most on the team. Mulato has been one of North Texas’ standout players, averaging .57 goals per 90 minutes despite only playing in 17 out of 25 games so far. All eight of the Colombian forward’s goals have come through the run of play and were scored inside the 18 yard box. Mulato’s impact can’t be understated as North Texas is unbeaten in 5 out of the 6 games he’s scored in. The young forward looks to continue making an impact in the upcoming match against Rapids 2.
