There's something about David Texeira and playoff-clinching matches.
For the second-straight year, Texeira scored as FC Dallas clinched a 2015 Audi MLS Cup Playoff spot with two goals including a brilliant long-range effort to secure a vital 4-1 victory over the Houston Dynamo.
"I’m happy for the team and for myself," Texeira said after Sunday's win. "I think we did a great job today. It was what we needed, three points to get in the playoffs, so we’re happy."
With the score tied at one in the 49th minute, Texeira received a pass from Zach Loyd and unleashed a wicked 25-yard effort that was surely the best of his nine goals with the club.
"I still can’t believe I scored that goal. Always as a striker you try to create chances to shoot from outside the goal," said Texeira. "I think it’s one of the best goals I’ve scored since I started playing professionally."
It doesn't get much better than that strike from Texeira and it doesn't get much better than this win for Dallas who moved into a tie for first place in the Western Conference on 50 points.
After starting the previous four matches, Texeira was unused in last week's loss to Los Angeles but earned his spot back during training and showed why in the win.
"Texeira didn’t stop working when I didn’t call his name to the lineup last week and he had a terrific week of training which made us think today was his game and he proved us right," said Oscar Pareja. "It’s great and at the same time Blas and Tesho and the rest of the forwards are showing that we’re a very complete team and competitive."
