ST. LOUIS, Missouri (Aug. 28, 2026) — North Texas SC (7-8-9, 35 points) won the penalty shootout 8-7 after drawing 1-1 with St. Louis CITY2 (9-7-9, 40 points) Friday night at Energizer Park. FC Dallas Homegrown Benji Flowers converted the match-winning penalty to secure the extra point and give North Texas two points in its playoff push.
NICK SIMMONDS LEVELS THE MATCH
Forward Nick Simmonds scored his fourth goal of the season in first-half stoppage time off an overhead-kick pass from Slade Starnes. Simmonds is now tied for third on the team in goals this season.
ETCHING HIS NAME IN HISTORY
Head coach John Gall managed his 73rd match for North Texas SC tonight, surpassing former NTSC head coach and current FC Dallas head coach Eric Quill for the most matches managed in club history. Gall joined North Texas SC as an assistant coach ahead of the 2023 season. The club promoted him to interim head coach on July 17, 2023, before naming him its fourth head coach on Nov. 16, 2023. In 2024, Gall led North Texas to a 7-1-4 record before joining FC Dallas as an interim assistant coach on June 11, 2024.
WELCOME BACK, DIEGO GARCIA
FC Dallas Homegrown midfielder Diego Garcia returned to the pitch in the 70th minute, making his first appearance since May 30 after missing time with an injury. Garcia has made 80 career appearances for North Texas, the most in club history.
MONTOYA RETURNS
Goalkeeper Nico Montoya made his fourth start of the season, recording two saves, including one in the penalty shootout. Montoya returned from the Caribbean and Central American Games, where he made two appearances for Colombia U-19. This season, Montoya earned his first clean sheet on May 9 against MNUFC2.
