DENVER, Colorado (June 18, 2025) – North Texas SC (6-5-3, 23 points) won the extra-point penalty shootout versus the Colorado Rapids 2 (7-5-5, 24 points) after a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night at The University of Denver Soccer Stadium. Sam Sarver scored North Texas’ lone goal of the night.
CAPTAIN SARVER SCORES EIGHTH GOAL OF THE SEASON
Forward Sam Sarver scored his eighth goal of the season in the 60th minute. Sarver now sits fourth in the MLS NEXT Pro Golden Boot race. The Indiana University alum leads the team with three away goals this season.
FIFTY GAMES FOR RAMIREZ
FC Dallas Homegrown midfielder Anthony Ramirez made his 50th regular season appearance for North Texas SC tonight, becoming the ninth player in club history to reach this milestone. Ramirez made his professional debut with North Texas on March 25, 2023, against LAFC 2. He officially signed with the club in February 2024 and helped lead North Texas to their first championship in MLS NEXT Pro. Ramirez signed his Homegrown contract in January 2025, and recently made his season debut for the first team in a 4-2 win over Sporting Kansas City on June 14.
URZUA STARTS FOR NORTH TEXAS
After scoring the lone goal for North Texas last game against Austin FC II, midfielder Alejandro Urzua earned his first start of the season tonight. Urzua has made seven appearances for the club this year, and 38 since making his debut in 2022.
START NUMBER ONE FOR CORTELLESSA
Tonight, FC Dallas Academy defender Michael Cortellessa made his first professional start. Cortellessa has six appearances for North Texas and debuted on March 14 against Whitecaps FC 2.
