FRISCO, Texas - Luchi makes just one personnel change from the lineup that defeated the Portland Timbers in the first round as FC Dallas takes on the Seattle Sounders in the Western Conference Semifinals at 8:30PM at Lumen Field. Here's tonight's lineup notes, pres. by UnitedHealthcare.
Luchi opts to stray from his usual 4-3-3 formation instead fielding a 4-4-2 with midfielder Andrés Ricaurte joining Franco Jara up top as a second striker. Ricaurte has been used in a variety of positions since joining Dallas in the summer, usually lining up as a box-to-box or deep lying playmaker. Tonight, however, he'll venture further forward into the attack and look to affect the game from a more advanced position.
Much like the previous round against Portland, Ryan Hollingshead and Fafa Picault both start as the wide players in Dallas' new four-man midfield. However, the two wingers have swapped flanks so Hollingshead lines up on the right with Picualt returning to the left. With Hollingshead playing further forward, Johnny Nelson gets the start at left back once again.
Tessmann in the Middle
Homegrown Tanner Tessmann gets his first-career playoff start after being used as a substitute in the previous round. The 19-year-old joins Thiago Santos in the middle of the park and will be tasked with protecting Dallas' backline from Seattle's crafty playmakers. It's Tessmann's first start in the postseason and his 10th overall for the 2020 campaign.
Starting XI: Jimmy Maurer; Johnny Nelson, Bressan, Matt Hedges, Bryan Reynolds; Thiago Santos, Tanner Tessmann, Fafa Picault, Ryan Hollingshead, Franco Jara, Andrés Ricaurte
Substitutes — Phelipe, Reto Ziegler, Callum Montgomery, Brandon Servania, Ema Twumasi, Ricardo Pepi, Santiago Mosquera, Michael Barrios, Jesús Ferreira
