Quote Sheet - What They're Saying After #NSHvFCD

FC Dallas head coach Luchi Gonzalez
General thoughts on tonight’s match…
It’s a good feeling, from the beginning it was a chippy game. I had a sense the players wanted to respond in this game. We haven’t gotten the best results against this team. The last game here hurt. The score line didn’t give justice to the actual game statistically and that happens. No matter what statistically, we wanted to get the result. We want to get that final result and keep pushing for a home playoff game. I felt like the players showed that energy and urgency in the beginning. Obviously Nashville put some numbers up at the end, and we made some adjustments tactically and through some subs. The guys did the job and I’m very proud of them. We just have to keep growing and building on this for the next one.

On Ryan’s performance tonight…
Franco and Fafa are two important players for us that were feeling things yesterday that the medical staff thought it would be a risk to push it today. We felt that it would be better to rest them and have them ready for Minnesota and for the playoffs. We had to make adjustments, we had Ryan on the wing which we’ve done before against Sporting KC and he also managed to score his first goal of the season as well. Johnny has good experience in the back line and on the left. We went with this and we would see what we had to adjust throughout the game. Proud of Ryan to make the adjustment, he’s a utility player that’s his talent and his biggest strength is that he can play multiple positions. We do believe his top position is left back for us, but when he has to step into other areas, he does it with a high level of commitment. Proud of him to get his goal and to help the team get the win tonight.

General thoughts on the match…
I mean we fought well and that wasn’t our best game, but this is a tough place to play as we’ve seen Nashville do throughout the season. They are a really organized team and a tough team. They really looked like they were trying to take advantage of us. [A team] that wanted to possess and open up the game with our possession and really spread out the field and so that hurt us last time, but we were able to make some adjustments and get back when we needed to. We unfortunately couldn’t put one or two more away. The guys really dug in and fought hard to earn that 1-0 win away.

On Nashville’s deep crosses and crowding the box…
We know that it’s part of their game plan in terms of late game. Walker basically starts playing forward when they are down. We have seen that on video that if we were winning the game kind of changes that way for them. They are just a big team. Every sub they made, I was talking to Drew to let him try and reorganize on set pieces when they made the subs. Every single sub they made you look over and the guy is 6-2,6-3,6-4. They are just a big team. They’ve got a lot of height. They are great at set pieces. The are one of the top scores in the league on set pieces so we knew they liked volume and at the end of the game they are going to put all of those guys up for sure.

FC Dallas Winger/Defender/Utility Player Ryan Hollingshead
On the approach against Nashville tonight...
Today was a little bit different because we lined up with me as a winger, more of an idea to attack but then we kind of changed and brought me back as kind of a five in the back so we were kind of fluid in that. We knew that they were going try to go five in the back once we saw their line up and so we knew that if I could press, Johnny (Nelson) could cover their wingback pretty well and it would allow me to get some space going forward. We knew they were also  starting a young center back and wanted to run at him. It’s just reading the game. We had a gameplan coming into this one. We wanted to come in here and get an early goal and we did. Then we kind of played the way that Nashville played: try to beat their own style and they couldn’t do it. We kind of stuck to the gameplan and it turned out well.

On scoring his 4th goal of the season...
Hopefully I can make that a tradition. Let’s keep going that way. I pride myself in being able to get forward, even as a defender. Even in a game like this where I have to play more of an attacking style, I get really excited for it. I mean, classic Hollingshead goal, right, just scrappy, getting the rebound.
