FRISCO, Texas – This week on the FCD Rewind series is FC Dallas vs. Montreal Impact from Aug. 17, 2019. The match will be replayed this Sunday, June 14 at 7PM on TXA 21 and will also be available to stream on fcdallas.com/OnDemand starting Monday, June 15.
Here are a few reasons to tune in this Sunday for FCD vs. MTL from last season.
FC Dallas travelled to Saputo Stadium to face the Montreal Impact just three days after a narrow midweek loss to the LA Galaxy. With eight games remaining in the regular season, Dallas sat in eighth place in the West, just one point below the playoff line. Montreal was in a similar predicament and was holding the final playoff spot in the East, just ahead of Orlando City on goal difference. However, Rémi Garde’s men had lost six of their last seven games. Dallas’ summer visit north of the border was a crucial matchup riddled with playoff implication for both sides.
A Tough Start
Dallas got off to a slow start with Montreal’s Lassi Lappalainen opening the scoring for the hosts after eight minutes. Despite some close calls, the Impact repelled Dallas’ attacks and was able to double their lead right before the break. The second half started similarly to the first when Orji Okwonkwo added another goal for Montreal. With FCD in a 3-0 hole after 56 minutes, it was going to take a comeback for the ages to leave Montreal with any sort of positive result.
With Dallas two goals down at the half, Luchi Gonzalez introduced Czech forward Zdenek “Kobra” Ondrasek hoping he could provide some inspiration off the bench. Kobra proved to be the difference maker and got FCD on the board with his first MLS goal just three minutes after after Okwonwko had scored Montreal’s third. While FCD was still two goals down, Kobra’s 60th-minute strike proved to be the spark the team needed to mount the unlikeliest of comebacks.
