FRISCO, Texas – This week on the FCD Rewind series is FC Dallas vs. Minnesota United from June 29, 2018. The match will be re-aired this Sunday, May 24 from 7-9PM on TXA 21 and will be available to stream on fcdallas.com/OnDemand the following Monday.
This was only the third ever meeting between FC Dallas and Minnesota United and it proved to be an exciting, end to end contest. Dallas was enjoying yet another strong campaign under head coach Óscar Pareja and sat in second place in the West, just three points behind leaders Sporting Kansas City. Minnesota on the other hand was trying to get its season on track and was two places and seven points below the playoff line. Although Dallas had won four of its previous five, it entered the game on the back of a disappointing 3-0 defeat to the New York Red Bulls the week prior and needed a strong showing to bounce back.
No Mauro, No Problem
FC Dallas was without talisman Mauro Díaz for the third straight game. Rumors were swirling of an imminent transfer and they proved to be correct as the Argentine made the move to Dubai outfit Shabab Al-Ahli just four days later. But his absence didn’t hinder Dallas in this game and the playmaking duties fell to teenaged Homegrown Paxton Pomykal who earned just his second start of the season.
All About the Result
Although Dallas took all three points from TFC Bank Stadium they did so thanks to some good luck and a few heroic saves from goalkeeper Jesse González. FCD was outshot by Minnesota 15 to eight and the home team was within inches of breaching Dallas’ goal on numerous occasions. Despite the many scares and an indifferent performance, Pareja’s men were able to keep an unlikely clean sheet and grabbed a set-piece goal to earn an important victory on the road.
