FRISCO, Texas – The U-17 Girls Academy team takes to the field against rivals Solar SC at Westcott Stadium on Thursday, September 26 for Three Stripe Live, presented by adidas. The livestream is the first platform of its kind for girls' club sports. “We are really excited to play on a national platform, and the players are determined to show why they were chosen over all the teams by the country," said U-17 Head Coach Ashley Gordon.
Before you head to University Park or livestream the match, here are a four young women to keep an eye on.
Jordyn Gunnarson, Goalkeeper
Gunnerson has been with the FC Dallas Academy for three years and has been the starting keeper in her tenure. A determined player, Gunnerson have thrived at the FC Dallas Academy and deals well with the pressure that comes with leading the backline. “I like the pressure that comes with being the goalkeeper, and I like that the decisions that I make have a big impact on the game.”
The young goalkeeper also has experience with the U.S. Women’s Youth Team, having picked up two caps for the U-17 national team. “She is a great presence on the field and a great leader,” Gordon said when asked about Gunnerson’s impact on the team.
Maeve Jones, Forward
Jones is now going into her third year with FC Dallas. “Jones is part of a deadly forward line that can trouble any defense,” U-17 Head Coach Ashley Gordon said. “She is a great goal scorer and she can get in behind any team as a real threat.”
“I love the chemistry within the team. The coaches and the training staff are really great and they prepared me for the future,” Jones said when talking about her time as part of the FC Dallas Academy. Jones has started the year strong, scoring a brace in the U-17’s first game of the year
Morganne Eikelbarner, Forward
“I’ve been here four years and I love it here. I love running down the field and slapping everyone’s hand after you score," Eikelbarner said when talking about her time at FC Dallas. Although the game will be broadcast nationally, players like Eikelbarner are looking forward to the challenge. “I have been looking forward to this game for a while now,” the forward said when asked about the upcoming broadcast.
An exciting and dynamic player, Eikelbarner has begun the season in a good vein of form, scoring two goals in the first two games. One of those goals was the winner in the team’s second game, a 2-1 victory against the Houston Dash U-17 squad.
Cassie Clifton, Defender
In her fourth year, Clifton has become a key fixture in the backline regardless of the age group. “My favorite thing about player wingback is that it is a versatile position. I get to attack, but I am also an important part of the defense,” Clifton said while discussing her role on the team.
As the starting left back, Clifton played up as part of the U-17 team last year. “She was an important part of the team that won the U-15 national championship a year ago, and so we are super excited to have her playing again,” Gordon explained when talking about the quality of the U-17 Girls Team.
