North Texas SC vs Chattanooga Red Wolves SC Match Preview | 8.17.19

FRISCO — USL League One leaders North Texas SC (10-4-5, 35 points) visits third place Chattanooga Red Wolves (8-5-7, 31 points) at David Stanton Field on Saturday August 17that 6:00 PM CT. The two teams have split the season series, each team winning its home fixture, with the last meeting between the two teams in Chattanooga ending in a 1-0 victory to the Red Wolves courtesy of a penalty by leading scorer Steven Beattie.

Current Form
North Texas SC enters this matchup hoping to turn its fortunes around. After losing two in a row, NTSC drew its last game against FC Tucson 1-1. The tie marks its fourth game at home without a win, but there was hope as Arturo Rodriguez’s 78th minute equalizer meant that NTSC had scored for the first time in four matches. After back-to-back with a red card, NTSC showed marked improvement in its discipline by only picking up one yellow card. Overall, NTSC have not been bad on the road, going 3-3-2, although its last road match against Chattanooga ended in a 1-0 loss.

The Opponent
Chattanooga will take the field as the only team in USL League 1 to remain unbeaten at home. It has played 10 matches at home, winning six and drawing four. Its recent form has also been stellar, taking 7 points from the last 4 games, including back-to-back wins against NTSC and 4th place South Georgia Tormenta FC. The two victories pushed the Red Wolves into third place, its highest position in the table this year.

Players to Watch
As NTSC hopes to find an offensive spark, they will welcome back top scorer Ronaldo Damus from injury. Damus had missed three games, with NTSC going scoreless in all three. He looked lively in a 35 minute cameo against FC Tucson, winning one duel and managing one shot and one cross. Damus’ nine goals this season ties him for the golden boot in USL. He is second on the team with 16 shots on target, and with 28 shots in total he leads the team in conversion rate, putting 32 % of his shots into the net. North Texas hopes his reintroduction will coincide with a return to its free-scoring ways.

The injury/suspension report for Chattanooga makes for worrying reading. The Tennessee based team will be missing top scorer Steven Beattie to suspension, who leads the team with eight goals. Although he is not listed as injured, second highest scorer Eamon Zayed has not played in the last two games. Without its top scorers, the Red Wolves will be counting on Sito Seoane. He has scored three goals this year and has been their most active attacker, leading the team with 32 shots. He has also created 12 chances and is tied for second on the team with 15 crosses. Chattanooga will hope that if Zayed does not recover in time, Seoane can lead the line and trouble the scorer’s table.
