FRISCO, Texas- The FC Dallas Boys U-19 team was beaten in a clash of giants against the NYCFC U-19 Boys team in Southern California with a final score of 2-1.
The game started at a frantic pace, and in the 10th minute, FC Dallas striker Gibran Rayo won a penalty after he evaded a challenge. Rayo stepped up to take the penalty, but NYCFC keeper Alex Rando made a great save getting down to his right and pushing it past the post. NYCFC picked dup their tempo and FC Dallas defender Hernandez cleared a shot off the line. NYCFC’s high press won the ball near the halfway line that FC Dallas could not clear fell to NYCFC striker Veljko Pekovic, who smashed the ball into the back of the net in the 15th minute. Both teams had chances in a back and forth half, but it remained 1-0 as the game headed to halftime.
FC Dallas started the second half strongly, and FC Dallas striker Johan Gomez thought he had scored by his shot was stopped by a desperate challenge by NYCFC. However, NYCFC weathered the storm and New York City FC capitalized on a mistake at the back to slide the ball past the keeper to give a commanding 2-0 lead to NYCFC. FC Dallas continued to press and while Gomez and Tanner Tessmann had opportunities, they could not find a way past NYCFC’s defense. FC Dallas had hope for a moment after Pekovic had his penalty saved in the 89th minute. A last-minute goal by Beni Redzic via a big deflection gave FC Dallas hope However, NYCFC was able to hold on to their lead through the final whistle.
FC Dallas finished the playoffs in second place after an amazing playoff run.
