FRISCO, Texas- FC Dallas Mens U-19 team have been strong so far in the playoffs, winning every game in the group stage by at least 2 goals, and won in the quarterfinals 2-0 against the Michigan Wolves in a game where the score line did not reflect their dominance.
Depth and Talent Through The Roster
Unlike many of the other strong teams in the men’s division, the U-19 have had to face a rather unique challenge. Due to FC Dallas’s development system building in to the USL League 1 team North Texas SC, there have been many players who have trained or played with both squads. The U-19 has been so successful with their development that quite a few players have been called up to play with the North Texas SC roster as well.
Despite these challenges, FC Dallas has found some key players that produce at a very high level no matter where they are playing. As they travel back to the West coast for a semifinal on Monday, they will be counting on Johan Gomez and Jorge Almauger, who have been some of their top scorers. They also have leadership through Tanner Tessman who has also played on the NTSC roster as well.
Moving Forward In Playoffs
The U-19s next challenge is facing the Saint Louis FC U-19s in the semifinals on Monday, July 8th at 11am PDT. Saint Louis is currently undefeated so far as well, beating Sporting Kansas City, New York Red Bulls, New England Revolution, and Real Colorado to progress to this matchup. Saint Louis was ranked as the number one wildcard heading in to playoffs while FC Dallas is ranked as the number one seed. After semifinals the winning team will compete in the Academy Playoff Finals on Wednesday, July 10th in Orange County, California.
