FRISCO, Texas- The FC Dallas U-17 Girls team will play on Tuesday, July 9th against Lonestar Academy SC after cruising past their quarterfinal opponents IMG Academy 3-0. Although FC Dallas, ranked 11th in playoff standings were only 1 seed above IMG, FC Dallas surpassed their opponent in every aspect of the game.
FC Dallas was able to win all 4 matches they played while keep clean sheets. When they play Lonestar Academy, they will be facing a team that managed to qualify out of their group and were unable to score in 2 of their 4 playoffs games. Although FC Dallas’s opponent boast an impressive defensive record, FC Dallas has managed to score in all four of their games, with defenders, midfielders and forwards finding the scoresheet.
Head coach Matthew Grubb knows that their defense has been crucial to their success. When asked about the progress of the team, Grubb said “The defense and goalkeepers have yet to concede a goal in the playoffs. Strong performance by the goalkeepers making several phenomenal saves have been important.” He also noted that they have faced very tough situations, stating that FC Dallas “overcame two injuries and a red card that prevented 3 players from playing in the quarterfinals.”
While FC Dallas will not be looking past their challenge in the Semifinals despite the difference in performance thusfar. In the other semi-final is Solar Soccer Club, and Beach Futbol Club who are seeded in the number one spot and the number 14 spot while FC Dallas is ranked at number 11. If FC Dallas wins they will advance to the playoff finals to face one of these teams.
