FRISCO— First-place North Texas SC hosts seventh-place Greenville Triumph SC at Toyota Stadium on Sunday, July 7 at 8:45 PM. The match is part of a doubleheader with FC Dallas’ friendly game against Xolos of Liga MX beginning at 6:30 PM.
North Texas has recorded back-to-back wins for the first time since early May with a 1-0 win over FC Tucson and a 3-1 victory over Lansing Ignite FC last week. The two wins lifted North Texas back into first-place in USL League One, where it currently holds a 4-point advantage over second-place South Georgia Tormenta.
Greenville Triumph earned its first victory in four games with a 2-0 win over last-place Orlando City B on Friday, June 28. The Triumph has had difficulties scoring this season, only scoring 10 goals from 178 shots—a league-worst 7% conversion rate. However, Greenville has ground out results via its steely defense which has only conceded 10 goals, second fewest in League One. North Texas’ league-leading offense will meet its toughest matchup yet when Greenville visits Toyota Stadium on Sunday.
Players to Watch
For the third week in a row, Ronaldo Damus is the player to watch for North Texas. The forward scored for the fourth game running last week to bring his league-leading tally up to nine goals on the season. The Haitian has been the hottest player in the league over the last month and his combination of speed and unerring finishing make him the player to watch on Sunday yet again.
Jake Keegan is undoubtedly the player to watch for Greenville Triumph on Saturday. With his five goals this season, Keegan has accounted for exactly half of the Triumph’s goals in the league so far. Playing as the focal point of the attack, Keegan will be instrumental if Greenville is to blemish North Texas’ perfect 7-0-0 record at Toyota Stadium on Sunday night.
