FRISCO, Texas- FC Dallas U-17 went into the knockout stage as the undisputed victors of their group with a third victory in 6 days, taking down the U-17 team of the Vancouver Whitecaps 4-1.
For the second game in a row, FC Dallas conceded first, as Simon Colyn scored the first in the 13th minute. However much like in their second game, this goal served as a wakeup call for FC Dallas and they responded by increasing their intensity and pressure. In a few minutes, FC Dallas found the response through a 19th minute strike by David Rodriguez.
What followed next was an incredibly barrage as FC Dallas tore the game open in an 18 minute burst. After Rodriquez equalized, his strike partner Michael Sosa added a second 7 minutes later. Rodriquez scored after Sosa in the 31st, and not to be outdone Sosa added a second in the 37th to put FC Dallas firmly in the driving seat. with a 3 goal lead, FC Dallas's U-17 had no problem easily seeing out the rest of the game.
When asked after the game, head coach Matias Asorey said "I'm so proud of the players. They overcame an early game and responded with great play and four goals."
Both FC Dallas academy teams go into the knockout rounds as winners of 3 straight and strong favorites. FC Dallas' U-19 team play Monday the 24th against the Michigan Wolves U-19s and the U-17s will get a three day break before taking on the Solar Soccer Club U-17s on Tuesday.
