U-20 WORLD CUP: Brandon Servania Starts and Wins Penalty in 1-0 Victory in Final Group Stage Match

FRISCO — The USA defeated Qatar 1-0 in its final group stage match of the U-20 World Cup, earning qualification into the Round of 16 of the tournament. FC Dallas midfielder Brandon Servania started and played 84 minutes in Thursday’s match, and he won a penalty for the U.S. after being fouled in the box late in the game.

The two other FC Dallas representatives on the team, Paxton Pomykal and Edwin Cerrillo, did not feature in the match. But, Chris Durkin and Alex Mendez, who both entered Thursday with yellow cards, each accumulated another against Qatar, so the duo will be suspended for the Round of 16.

That means Servania, Pomykal and Cerrillo — a potential all-FC Dallas midfield — could be in the Starting XI for the U.S. next round.

The U.S. finished in second place of Group D on 6 points, only one point behind Ukraine, the only team that defeated the former so far.
