FRISCO - We are less than a week away from the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. FC Dallas currently has two first round picks after the trades of Kellyn Acosta and Maxi Urruti. FCD has the fourth and tenth pick of the draft and it will be the second year in a row that Dallas will have two selections in the first round.
Here is look at the five best picks in MLS SuperDraft history selected at pick 10.
5. Matt Jordan - 1998 (Dallas Burn)
Twenty-one years ago the Dallas Burn selected goalkeeper Matt Jordan from the University of Clemson. Jordan played with the Burn for five seasons, starting 114 matches, the most in team history for a goalie. He gave up 1.52 goals against per game in his career. He made the 1999 MLS All-Star game, was named Dallas' Defender of the Year in 1999 and was twice named the Humanitarian of the Year for the club.
4. Ethan Finlay - 2012 (Columbus Crew)
Finlay has recorded 35 goals and 34 assists since being drafted in 2012. He has had two seasons with double-digit goals and helped Columbus reach the Western Conference Finals in 2015, when he was named to the league's Best XI.
3. Kevin Alston - 2009 (New England Revolution)
Alston played over 13,000 minutes at outside back during his career. He spent his first seven years with the New England Revolution, registering 136 starts. Alston was named the league's Comeback Player of the Year in 2013 after battling chronic myelogenous leukemia.
2. Shavar Thomas - 2003 (Dallas Burn)
Thomas is another Dallas pick on the list, but he only played one season for the club. Thomas played in the league for 10 seasons and started 175 games in his career. He helped the Kansas City Wizards win the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2004 and recorded over 50 caps for the Jamaican national team.
Sapong is only the No. 10 pick in MLS history to win the Rookie of the Year, and he has not slowed down since. Sapong has scored 56 goals in eight seasons, including a 16-goal outburst in 2017. He has 233 MLS appearances to his name and is coming off a season where he played 32 matches for the Philadelphia Union. Sapong has also won an MLS Cup and an Open Cup during his time with Sporting.
