POWER RANKINGS: Week 29 MLS Roundup

FRISCO – With six games left in the season, FC Dallas is about to go on a two-game road trip against two teams fighting for a Western Conference playoff spot. The first will be in Vancouver against the Whitecaps on Sunday (6PM, TXA21).

FC Dallas is coming off of a 0-0 draw at home vs. Columbus Crew SC and Vancouver dropped a home match to Seattle, losing 2-1.

Heading into the match, here’s where both teams stand in the power rankings.

1. Atlanta United FC (no change)
2. New York Red Bulls (no change)
3. Seattle Sounders (no change)
4. Sporting Kansas City (no change)
5. FC Dallas (no change) - Sometimes, grinding out scoreless draws are not satisfying but adequate, but FC Dallas seemed to treat theirs against Columbus as more like a loss. Going up against a side reeling in Vancouver, Oscar Pareja & Co. will have a chance to bounce back and battle back to be top in the West.
16. Vancouver Whitecaps FC (-2) - On paper, the Whitecaps' prospects aren't terrific but they aren't out of the running for the postseason, either. But in seeing the quotes coming from Vancouver after their loss to Seattle, it sounds like frustration may be giving way to resignation, and that isn't a great sign for their prospects.

1. Atlanta United (no change)
2. New York Red Bulls (no change)
3. Sporting Kansas City (+3)
4. Seattle Sounders (no change)
5. FC Dallas (-2) - A tactically minded, cagey affair in Frisco saw FC Dallas get only a point at home against the Crew. Because of that result and Sporting's win, the Texans dropped into second place in the Western Conference.
12. Vancouver Whitecaps FC (-2) - The Caps were the latest victim of Seattle's streak on Saturday at BC Place in a 2-1 loss. Vancouver might have earned a different outcome if it hadn't wasted early chances. Playing from behind made things too difficult against the red-hot Sounders.
