Midfielder joins the Gulf League club immediately
FRISCO – FC Dallas announced today the transfer of Mauro Diaz to Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai FC of the UAE Arabian Gulf League. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“I know this may not be the most ideal time to say goodbye, especially in a season in which we are doing so well but, this is a great opportunity for my family and for me,” Diaz said. “I will always be thankful for everything. I want you to know you will always be in my heart.”
“This is a great opportunity for Mauro and his family,” said FC Dallas President Dan Hunt. “While we hate to see Mauro leave the organization, this was the right time for him. We appreciate everything Mauro did for FC Dallas during his remarkable time here.”
The 27-year old midfielder was in the middle of his sixth season with FC Dallas after joining the club in 2013. Diaz started 84 matches, recording 23 goals and 44 assists. He has played in 12 games in 2018, starting nine while registering two goals and eight assists.
“Mauro has been an incredible player to work with and a remarkable contributor during his time with FC Dallas,” said head coach Oscar Pareja. “We wish him nothing but the very best as he takes this next step in his career.”
Diaz helped FC Dallas win the Supporters’ Shield in 2016 as well as the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup that same year.
Shabab Al-Ahli is based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and competes in the UAE Arabian Gulf League. The club has won seven league titles, eight UAE’s President Cup titles, four UAE super cup titles and three UAE League Cup crowns.
