FRISCO – Jimmy Maurer has been exceptional in his first season of MLS action. The 29-year-old goalkeeper has a chance to represent FC Dallas in the MLS All-Star game on August 1 against Juventus. You can help get him there.
Here are five reasons why you should vote for Maurer to make it to Atlanta.
Maurer has given up 1.1 goals per game this season, the third lowest in the league among goalies with at least 10 starts. He has three shutouts in 10 games this season. The FCD record for shutouts in a season is 13.
Maurer did not make his MLS debut until he was 29 years old. Since being drafted in 2011, he has had stints in the PDL, NASL and even a year playing in the Chilean Primera División.
Maurer has saved 29 of the 39 shots he has faced this season. His 74.4 percent save percentage is tied for the second highest in the league among goalies with dougle-digit starts.
Maurer is the all-time record holder in minutes at the University of South Carolina and his 28 shutouts are a team record. As a member of the New York Cosmos, he was on the NASL’s Best XI in 2014 and won a title with the team in 2015.
Maurer is great with his feet in the back which allows the defense to play him the ball comfortably to help control possession better.
