ACADEMY: U-17s Fall to Pachuca in Second Game of 2018 Generation adidas Cup

FRISCO - The FC Dallas U-17 Academy team took an early lead, but fell late to Pachuca, 2-1, in their second group stage match of the 2018 Generation adidas Cup.

It was Johan Gomez getting his second of the tournament for Dallas in the 10th minute to take the game's first lead. Beni Redzic sent a long set piece across the field and hit Nathan Toledo alone in the area, who sent a diving header across the box that Gomez tapped home with a header of his own.

The Tuzos responded just before halftime on the counter attack with a shot from inside the area that FCD goalkeeper Zachary Schawl got a piece of working his way back across the goal mouth, but not enough of as Pachuca leveled the game 1-1 in the 28th minute.

Then, in the 44th minute, Pachuca took their own lead connecting on a header in the box off a cross from the right flank that Toledo couldn't quite reach on the edge of the six-yard box.

Despite a flurry of subs for Luchi Gonzalez's side, Dallas could not find the equalizer and fell to a 1-1-0 record with their final group stage match coming up Monday afternoon at 4:45, moved up a day from the originally scheduled Tuesday match to avoid rain expected to move through the area.

"Two goals conceded with little moments where they were kind of all over us and we failed to recognize what the game needed, which was to play safe and get it out," Gonzalez said. "I actually think it's good that we play tomorrow because we're ready to bounce back. That tomorrow off day, even though yes physically could be a good rest, we're all in the same boat and everyone has to play tomorrow. I can tell you we're not going to play relaxed."

Every team in Group D now sits with three points heading into the final match. Dallas and LA Galaxy square off adjacent to a Monaco-Pachuca meeting with a spot in the semifinal on the line. FCD needs to beat the Galaxy and also hope that Monaco takes care of business against Pachuca, which would put Dallas and Monaco tied on points and regulation wins and see Dallas advance based on their win in the head-to-head meeting on Friday.
