HOUSTON - The FC Dallas U-17 Academy team once again qualified for the Championship Division of the Generation adidas Cup with a solid showing in Houston over the weekend.
FCD opened their second round of qualifying with a loss to fellow Central Division leader Toronto FC on Friday, but rebounded with a 2-0 win over Chicago Fire to clinch a top-two spot in their group. The 17s wrapped up the weekend with a 3-0 win over the Colorado Rapids Academy, bringing their GA Cup qualifying record to 5-1-0 and 15 points.
Dallas also showed solidarity with one of their own over the weekend. U-16 Academy forward Kai Thomas hails from Coral Springs, Fla. and is suffering with the loss of a close friend in last week's horrific high school shooting in nearby Parkland, Fla. Alyssa Alhadeff was one of 17 victims at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and players and staff wore armbands with AA17 on them throughout the weekend to honor her and the other 16 victims, all around the same age as the members of the U-17 team.
