FRISCO - On Sunday, the FC Dallas Girls' Academy concluded their U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, with the U-15, U-17, and U-19 losing just one match across nine games at the tournament, as the U-15 and U-17 teams took over as the top-ranked teams in the country in their respective age groups.
The Winter Showcase, in its eleventh year running and gives an opportunity for the top academies across the nation to compete against other top talents they would not normally face in their regular season schedule. It is, however, the first edition of the showcase for the newly launched Girls' Academy.
The U-15 Dallas team opened the tournament for the Texan club last Wednesday against Sky Blue in a 2-2 contest, with defender, Jacsyn Clark equalizing in the 38th minute. The age group would win their next two matches in shutout fashion, beating Reign Academy 2-0, before toping NTH Tophat 3-0.
Like their U-15 counterpart, the U-17 girl’s also faced Sky Blue, narrowly beating the New Jersey based club 2-1, before going on to tie their second match in a 2-2 result against LA Galaxy San Diego, with Sydney Richards’ brace getting cancelled out in the 17th and 83rd minute with the match finishing 2-2. The U-15 side closed their tournament with a 3-2 win over New York City FC.
In the oldest age group, the U-19 team faced heartbreak in their first match, conceding twice in the last five minutes in their match against Legends FC, ultimately losing 2-1 in their opener. However, they recovered in quick fashion with back-to-back wins including a 6-0 thrashing of their closing opponents, Washington Spirit Academy, with U-19 Forward Trinity Thomas scoring a hat-trick to close FC Dallas’ successful participation at this year’s Winter Showcase.
