FRISCO - Maynor Figueroa and Roland Lamah scored early goals for FC Dallas in a 2-0 win against the Colorado Rapids tonight at Toyota Stadium.
First Half Notes:
6’ – FC Dallas produced two corners and a free kick in the first six minutes of the match, the latter of which was taken quickly by the man who earned it – Mauro Diaz. The Argentine picked up his fifth assist of the season by knocking a short pass forward to Hernan Grana. The right back crossed the ball on the ground across the six-yard box where fellow outside back, Maynor Figueroa had snuck in behind the Colorado defense to finish off the play and give FC Dallas a 1-0 lead.
9’ – Three minutes later, Diaz found Grana once again down the right sideline. The Argentine ran down the pass, walked the end line towards goal, and picked out the run of Roland Lamah with a sharp pass. Lamah finished off his ninth goal of the season with a deft, outside-of-the-foot touch that beat Colorado goalkeeper Tim Howard to the back post to make it a 2-0 game.
35’ – Diaz nearly added a goal to his haul after combining with Maxi Urruti inside the area. FC Dallas’ No. 10 collected the return pass and looked for an opening to shoot while in a pack of defenders in front of goal. Diaz skillfully worked through a pair of defenders and got off a low shot to Howard’s right side but the U.S. International tipped the attempt just wide of the post with a diving save.
37’ – FC Dallas’ Jesse Gonzalez returned the favor on a Rapids’ free kick just before halftime. Mohammed Saeid took the free kick, bending a 25-yard shot over the wall towards the post to the goalkeeper’s right side, but Gonzalez pushed the shot high and wide of the woodwork to preserve the two-goal lead.
Second Half Notes:
49’ – Javier Morales lobbed a free kick into the area just after the halftime break. Defender Atiba Harris rose to meet the pass in the center of the box, nodding a header high to Howard’s right side, but the goalkeeper made an outstanding save, diving far to his right to slap down the attempt and cover the rebound.
53’ – Colorado had its best chance of the match to date in the 53rd minute. Dominique Badji sped through the FC Dallas backline but was chased off to the right side of goal by Harris. From a tough angle, Badji tried to beat Gonzalez low to the back post but the 22-year-old had it covered and made a save to his left side – his second of the night.
82’ – FC Dallas nearly took a 3-0 advantage when Morales combined with Michael Barrios at the top of the area. Barrios took the return pass and sprinted towards goal before firing a low shot towards the back post. The attempt beat the goalkeeper but skipped inches wide of the far post.
