Dallas looks to end eight-match winless streak
FC Dallas (9-8-10, 37 points) hosts the defending champion Seattle Sounders FC (11-7-10, 43 points) on Saturday, September 16 at Toyota Stadium in a match presented by UnitedHealthcare. This is the first of two meetings between the clubs this season. Dallas visits Seattle on October 16. This will be the 21st meeting overall between Dallas and Seattle. FCD is 5-10-5 all-time against the Sounders.
It Is What It Is
After losing 3-0 to Atlanta United last Sunday, FC Dallas’ winless streak is now at eight matches. It’s the longest 0-fer run for Dallas since an eight-game winless run from April 26-May 31, 2014. This ties the fourth-longest winless streak in club history and Dallas has been outscored 19-11 during the current run. FCD hasn’t won a match since an impressive come-from-behind win against Montreal on July 22.
But Against Seattle At Home….
FC Dallas won both meetings at Toyota Stadium last season and is undefeated in its last four home matches against the Sounders in Frisco.
Seattle is unbeaten in its last 12 matches and hasn’t posted a loss since June 17. The Sounders are outscoring opponents 23-11 during the run. Seattle has played to a draw in its last three matches.
Giving It Up
FC Dallas has conceded multiple goals seven times in the last eight games. Dallas didn’t concede more than two goals in a game in its first 19 MLS matches in 2017. Dallas is 2-8-4 when allowing the first goal but 6-0-3 when scoring first.
Saturday’s match will also be a reunion of sorts. Among the 26 players who played on the US Men’s National Team roster that competed in the CONCACAF 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers against Costa Rica and September earlier this month, five played for FC Dallas and Seattle: Dallas’ Kellyn Acosta, Matt Hedges and Seattle’s Clint Dempsey, Jordan Morris and Cristian Roldan.
Jordan Morris won’t play against Dallas. He is recovering from a strained hamstring.
