FC Dallas Slips In Week 23 Power Rankings

After spending much of the first half of the season in the top five as well as on top of various MLS power rankings, FC Dallas has dropped out of the top five in the most recent rankings and fell as far as 11th in one poll. Ouch.

I’ll say it again: the best thing about the MLS regular season is that there is another game around the corner and for Dallas that means a matchup with Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, August 19 at 7:30PM.

Here’s a look at the latest power rankings roundup:

1. Toronto FC (no change)
2. New York City FC (+1)
3. Chicago Fire (-1)
4. Seattle Sounders (+2)
5. Atlanta United FC (no change)
6. Sporting Kansas City (-2)
9. FC Dallas (-2) - Still atop the West in PPG. Still punchless and listless out there, and Mauro Diaz's benching doesn't bode well. Something in Frisco feels stale.

Soccer America

1. Toronto FC (no change)
2. New York City FC (+1)
3. Atlanta United FC (-1)
4. New York Red Bull's (+2)
5. Seattle Sounders (+4)
8. Sporting Kansas (-3) - Five changes were made to the team that endured 120 minutes of play plus penalty kicks in the Open Cup on Wednesday and SKC could not extend its unbeaten streak of 13 in all competitions. James Musa took over for midfielder Ilie Sanchez, who had played every minute in 2017.
11. FC Dallas (no change) - A dozen corner kicks and eight shots on goal added up to a frustrating result that included another Max Urruti goal annulled by video review. FCD has scored just one goal -- plus two wiped out by VAR -- while failing to win any of its last three games.

2. New York City FC (+1)
3. Chicago Fire (-2)
4. Seattle Sounders (+4)
5. Sporting Kansas City (-1) - Sporting's defense held up well enough to limit Seattle to one goal. Too bad the attack didn't deliver in the 1-0 road loss.
9. FC Dallas (-3) - FCD's power outage continued in a goalless draw against Colorado, though 28 shots speaks to the team's dominance
