FRISCO - The 2017 Copa Chivas Internacional concluded on Friday and a pair of finals in the prestigious tournament featured a team representing the FC Dallas Academy.
The 2003 and 2004 age-group finals of the tournament saw matchups between FC Dallas Academy teams and sides from the host club, Chivas de Guadalajara of Mexico.
While the FC Dallas 03 side succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to Chivas in its final, the 04 side was able to come away with its own 2-0 victory to take home the championship.
The tournament ran from July 24th to 28th and featured 60-minute games for teams in the 2003 and 2004 age group. Each team was allowed a maximum of 20 players on its roster.
The 03 team played seven games en route to its final, advancing past a four-team group consisting of Club Aexa (Mexico), Bufalos FC (Nicaragua) and Chivas San Rafael (Mexico). Wins over Club Aexa, Chivas Gigantera (Mexico) and International FC (Brazil) took Dallas to the final.
The 04 Academy side won each of its six matches en route to the title, scoring 24 goals while conceding zero. Dallas racked up a +18 goal differential in the group stages against Club Aexa (Mexico), Academia Santos Monclova (Mexico) and EOA Ceford.
The 04s then registered a trio of 2-0 wins in the knockout stages of the competition against La Pandilla BCS, Atletic Club El Paso (USA) and Chivas Gigantera (Mexico).
The showings from both the FCD 03s and 04s bettered the performance of the U-16 FC Dallas side that entered the tournament last year and lost in the quarterfinals.
Copa Chivas Internacional was founded in 1994 and features competitions for age groups from seven to 18 years old.
