PACHUCA, Mexico − FC Dallas will look to qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League Final in Pachuca, Mexico. The team has taken an aggressive approach to prepare for this match, including postponing a scheduled match against the Colorado Rapids on April 1. If they succeed, they will become only the third MLS team to do so since the tournament restructure in 2008.
In a recent interview with Sirius XM FC's "United States of Soccer" with Jason Davis, technical director Fernando Clavijo emphasized the support that not only the front office has given them, but that the support of MLS has been crucial in helping them prepare for the CONCACAF Champions League semifinal leg two match.
"The team made a good push of support for the coaching staff and everything else that we decided we needed to do to get ourselves at an equal playing [field], to play Pachuca," says Clavijo. "And we have plenty of time to come here with the team and really, the team made the commitment to do this. And give us an opportunity to compete.
Clavijo also emphasized the role that head coach Oscar Pareja has played in the team's success, which resulted in a long-term contract extension that was announced last week. "He has demonstrated every day and every year that it’s getting better. And I think the sky is the limit for Oscar. I do believe, with great respect to all the coaches in MLS, but I think we have the best coach in the league."
