FC Dallas Reserves downed River Plate Reserves, 2-1, today in a 75-minute friendly at rainy River Plate training grounds at Ezeiza.
FC Dallas: Carlos Avilez (Gonzalez 31), Anibal Chala, Aaron Guillen, Walker Zimmerman, Reggie Cannon, Carlos Cemeno (trailist 45), Jacori Hayes, Jesus Ferreira, Javi Morales (Mauro Rosales 45), Paxton Pomykal, Adonijah Reid (Walker Hume 45).
FCD earned a corner in the 11th minute after Javi Morales relived the pressure from River Reserves by looping a pass from his defensive third to Jesus Ferreira. The Homegrown quickly pushed the ball forward to Adonijah Reid who went straight to goal with the ball. A River defender poked the ball away, over the end line to give Dallas the set piece but the MLS side was unable to convert the chance.
Dallas nearly took a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute, when Reid sent a cross to the back post for Ferreira. The midfielder hit a first-touch strike to the near post but the River goalkeeper recovered well, saving the attempt off the line with a sliding kick save.
Seconds later River gained a 1-0 advantage following a counter attack. Center back Aaron Guillen was forced to make a sliding tackle to extinguish a breakaway opportunity and caught a piece of the River forward just outside the area. River converted the free kick quickly, sending a perfectly placed curling shot over the wall and into the upper 90.
Morales nearly leveled the match just before the first intermission. A very similarly taken set piece that was bent towards the top corner of the goal was slapped out of the air at the last second by the River goalkeeper.
Ferreira and Reid connected in the 43rd minute to make it a 1-1 game. After getting fouled hard off the ball, Reid recovered and won a header on the left flank that put Ferreira in on goal. A River defender recovered in time to make a play on Ferreira but the slippery playmaker cut back, sending the defender to the ground before beating the 'keeper to the far post with a hard shot that caught the far side netting.
FCD took a 2-1 lead just after the second intermission when Pomykal ran at three defenders down the left flank and earned a free kick chance 30 yards from goal.
Mauro Rosales served ball in to the front post, where 6'5' defender Walker Hume rose well above his marker to bury a header past the River Reserves goalkeeper. FC Dallas defended well for the final 15 minutes to claim the win.
