The numbers don't lie.
Walker Zimmerman enjoyed a career-year in his breakout 2016 campaign, and now has been named MLS' top defensive performing according to the Audi Player Index.
The fourth year pro out of Furman University started and went a full 90 minutes in all of his 30 appearances in league play, while scoring 4 goals - one off the league-best by a defender. Zimmerman quickly became one of the top aerial threats in the league, winning 103 balls in the air on 137 attempts (75.2 percent) while also dominating on the ground with 47 tackles won in open play and 101 interceptions in open play defensively.
Zimmerman, along with MLS Defender of the Year finalist Matt Hedges, anchored Dallas' back line that posted 12 clean sheets in 34 games, one off the team record for shutouts in a season (13 - 2011, 2015).
