FRISCO, Texas – FC Dallas midfielder Kellyn Acosta is one of 23 players called to Carson, Calif., by U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann for the first training camp of 2016, U.S. Soccer announced today.
The camp, which runs from Jan. 11 to Feb. 6, and contains a mix of senior team members and players age-eligible for the U-23 MNT, will culminate in friendlies against Iceland on Jan. 31 and Canada on Feb. 5. Both matches will be played at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.
Acosta and 2015 U.S. Soccer Youth Male Player of the Year Matt Miazga are the two youngest players in camp, both 20 years old, with Acosta being the youngest by five days. One of 14 Homegrown players signed by FC Dallas, Acosta just completed his third season with his hometown professional team. The Plano native appeared in 21 regular-season matches for the Dallas side this past season, starting 19 games, scoring three goals and tallying two assists. In his three seasons Acosta has appeared in 49 regular-season MLS matches, along with four playoff matches.

The 2015 season marked one of the best in franchise history for the Dallas side, which fell to eventual MLS Cup champion Portland Timbers FC in the Western Conference finals. Following the regular season FC Dallas tied with New York Red Bulls for the best record in all of Major League Soccer at 18-10-6 (60 points) and established itself as one of the most exciting young teams in the league. Fabian Castillo and Acosta earned accolades as the best in MLS under the age of 24, while Castillo and captain Matt Hedges both picked up Best XI nods following the season. Hedges and head coach Oscar Pareja were named finalists for Defender and Coach of the Year, respectively.
