FRISCO, Texas (Friday, Dec. 11) – With the first overall selection, FC Dallas has acquired forward Maximiliano Urruti in Stage One of the 2015 MLS Re-Entry Draft.
With the selection, FC Dallas will exercise the player’s option, and he will be automatically added to the club’s roster.
Urruti spent the previous three seasons with the Portland Timbers, minus a two-game stint with Toronto FC in 2013. In 67 MLS appearances, the 24-year-old Argentine has scored 15 goals and notched five assists. He began his professional career back home in Argentina with Newell’s Old Boys from 2010 to 2013 after developing in the club’s youth system. He made 56 appearances and scored 12 goals with the club in Argentina’s Primera Division, as well as six appearances in Copa Libertadores.
Toronto FC added Urruti in 2013 before trading him to Portland that same season.
Per MLS rules, clubs must exercise options for, or extend a Bona Fide offer to, all players selected in Stage One. Should a player reject the offer, the drafting club will hold the right of first refusal for that player in MLS. Players with option years left on their contracts are automatically added to the drafting club’s roster.
