FRISCO – FC Dallas forward Blas Perez, defender Carlos Rodriguez and midfielder Julian de Guzman have each been called in to represent their countries in upcoming World Cup Qualifying matches. The trio reports to camp with Panama and Canada, respectively on Monday, Sept. 3.
Panamanians Perez and Rodriguez will take on de Guzman’s Canada at 6:45 p.m. CT on Friday, Sept. 7. The game will be played at Toronto’s BMO Field. Four days later, the two teams meet again at Panama City’s Estadio Rommel Fernandez at 8:05 p.m. CT.
Rodriguez and de Guzman represented their respective countries in friendlies earlier this month with de Guzman’s Canada downing Trinidad and Tobago, 2-0, while Rodriguez and Panama fell to Portugal 2-0 in Portugal. Perez missed the friendly while recovering from an injury suffered during a 1-0 win over Cuba in June.
De Guzman has 57 career caps with the Canadian National Team, earning tournament MVP honors during the 2007 Gold Cup. Rodriguez has four caps for the Panamanian side while the veteran Perez has 22 goals in 57 appearances for his country.
Meanwhile, Dallas’ 18-year-old goalkeeper Richard Sanchez has joined the Mexico U-20 squad for a tournament in China. Sanchez reported to camp on Sunday in preparation for the tournament, which runs Sept. 4 through Sept. 12.
