That's A Wrap: Analysis of FC Dallas vs Portland

FRISCO – FC Dallas put Wednesday’s heartbreaking loss to San Jose behind them in major fashion on Saturday night at FC Dallas Stadium, defeating the Portland Timbers 5-0 in their largest victory of the season. There’s a multitude of things to like about this game, but here’s the three best moments from Saturday’s big win.

1)      It took David Ferreira about 20 minutes to get into the flow of Saturday night’s game, but when he did it paid off in a big way. The 2010 MLS MVP sprayed a wonderful ball out to left back Jair Benitez making an overlapping run. The Colombian sent in a low hard cross in the direction of Jackson, but the ball was deflected past Perkins and into his goal by defender Hayner Mosquera to give Dallas a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute. Benitez will get the plaudits for his pinpoint cross, but it was Ferreira who architected the goal with his ball into Jair.

2)      FC Dallas led by multiple goals in the first half this season for the first time thanks to a wonderful team goal finished off by Andrew Jacobson. Again it was Ferreira at the heart of the action, this time sending a ball in to Zach Loyd down the right wing. Loyd laid off a pass to Jacobson and the California native blasted an unstoppable shot from outside the box low to Perkins’ right to double the Dallas advantage in the 26th minute. It’s Jacobson’s first goal of the season and the second of his Dallas career.

3)      FC Dallas iced the game in the 48th minute through a wonderful individual effort from Jackson. The Brazilian received the ball in midfield, dribbled between two Timbers and fired a shot from outside the box that deflected off Timbers defender Futty Danso and into the goal. For FC Dallas, it’s the first time they’ve scored at least three goals in a game this season while David Ferreira cemented his Man Of The Match performance earning his second assist of the match.
