Academy Playoffs: U-16s shutout in final match of the season

FRISCO, Texas -- The FC Dallas U-16s' 2011-12 season came to an unfavorable close on Friday morning as they lost their third straight Playoffs match by a 3-0 result to Georgia United. In a match where neither side had a chance of advancing to Finals Week next month, Dallas failed to convert any of its chances while United forward Sebastian Ille ended his season with a bang by scoring a hat trick in the match.

Much of the first half was even in possession, but Georgia easily had the better of the scoring chances. FC Dallas goalkeeper Jose Gonzalez did well to keep the game scoreless through the first 40 minutes.

Gonzalez's first real test came in the 21st minute, when Georgia United was awarded a free kick from just outside the box. The set piece was bent around the wall and on frame, but Gonzalez was able to parry the shot to his right. The rebound was immediately sent back at the 'keeper, but he managed to block the second attempt with his legs and the ball was quickly ushered out of the area by the defense.

Gonazalez made three more saves before reaching stoppage time, all on the eventual goal-scorer for United. Ille was denied a point-blank shot in the 33rd minute, and Gonzalez also blocked the opposing forward on two consecutive shots in the 40th minute by stopping a header and denying Ille the rebound shot.

Ille's breakthrough came just before the whistle when Georgia was awarded a corner kick. The initial service didn't present much of a threat, but the defense couldn't clear the ball out of the area and after a scramble in the box Ille was finally able to beat Gonzalez to give United a 1-0 lead.

Estevan Vasquez came in for Gonzalez at halftime, but he didn't fare much better against Ille. The striker scored again in the 48th minute against the run of play after midfielder Eli Carrasco sent a cross in from the left side that Ille one-timed into the back of the net.

Carrasco and Ille combined for a nearly identical play in the 53rd minute that the latter once again put past Vasquez to put the bow on his hat trick and a 3-0 victory for Georgia United.
