WPSL: FC Dallas suffer first home loss

Top Big Sky-South division teams clashed at Dr. Pink Field on Sunday morning, as second-place FC Dallas WPSL hosted the first-place Oklahoma Alliance on Dallas’ home pitch where the team was previously 4-0-0 on the season. The game went back and forth for the most of the match, but by the time the final whistle blew Oklahoma had defeated Dallas 6-3.

Both teams had early chances, but the first goal didn’t come until the 16th minute when Oklahoma sent the ball past Dallas goalkeeper Courtney Webb low to the near post.

Dallas responded quickly when midfielder Teresa Eamma scored off a free kick from 40 yards out in the 18th minute.

Dallas scored again shortly after. In the 24th minute, FCD forward Myka Demarco sent a shot a shot on frame. The Alliance goalkeeper made the initial catch, but bobbled the ball and let it dribble into the Oklahoma goal.

The Alliance stepped up their attack and netted its second goal in the 33rd minute. Webb made a number of saves after Oklahoma's equalizer, including a leaping stop to keep the score knotted at two at halftime.

FCD forward Leslie Briggs earned several scoring chances early in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Briggs and teammate Michelle Young got a two on one with the Alliance goalkeeper. Briggs crossed the ball to Young for a scoring chance, but the shot went directly into the goalkeeper’s arms.

Briggs shortly after slipped past the Oklahoma defense in the 57th minute and sent a cross towards Demarco. An Alliance defender tried to intercept the pass, but deflected Briggs’ cross into her own net.

After several minutes of possession changes, Oklahoma tied the game in the 72nd minute at three goals apiece.

Both teams battled the heat throughout the match, but the edge went to the Alliance, who had six reserves available compared to FCD’s two.

A late push earned Oklahoma the victory. The Alliance scored the go-ahead goal in the 80th minute and added two more in the final 10 minutes to seal the win.

The match was the final game for Oklahoma before competing in the 2011 WSPL Playoffs. Dallas will close out its inaugural season on Tuesday, July 19 at 7 p.m. against the Fort Worth Panthers at Dr. Pink Field.
