WPSL: FC Dallas post 4-0 shutout on Houston

The FC Dallas inaugural WPSL team defeated Houston South Select 4-0 Sunday at Dr. Pink Field. It was the team’s second win over Houston this season and third win in a row.

The first half was a game of possession and few chances were seen by either team, but every opportunity Dallas had, forward Michelle Young was involved in.

In the ninth minute, Young dribbled the ball down the line and sent a cross to teammate Rachel Shipley. Shipley sent a shot at Houston goalkeeper Michelle Kloss, but the ball went wide.

The teams went into the locker rooms at half time with the score knotted at zero.

FCD gained the upper hand in the second half. Houston had only two bench players to use as substitutes, while Dallas had the advantage of seven subs they could use to keep a fresh team on the pitch on a hot Texas afternoon.

Dallas forward Leslie Briggs broke the tie in the 49th minute when she chipped in a rebound off Kloss, and FCD doubled the lead in the 74th minute when midfielder Krissy Stoner sent a volley over the Houston goalkeeper.

Brittany Thomas added back-to-back goals in the 80th and 85th minutes to seal the Dallas victory.

The win moved Dallas to 6-1 on the season and 3-0 at home. FCD is second in the Big Sky-South division with 18 points. Oklahoma Alliance FC sits in first with 24 points and a record of 8-1.

FC Dallas' next home match will be on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Dr. Pink Field against American Eagles SC.
