FC Dallas’ third and final group stage match started off slowly, with neither side producing a quality scoring chance until the 16th minute when Home Grown midfielder Victor Ulloa received the ball in the right corner of the penalty area and fired a shot just to the left of the far post.

Real Colorado countered the attack two minutes later, when midfielder Ryan Dozier let loose a similar shot from the FC Dallas penalty area that also went wide left of goal.

FC Dallas found the first goal of the match in the 21st minute when the side was awarded a free kick about 30 yards out and to the right of goal. Home Grown defender Moises Hernandez stepped up for the kick and bent the ball in and away from Real Colorado goalkeeper Trevor Obering to give Dallas the 1-0 lead.

The U-18s doubled their lead before the end of the half when Home Grown forward Jonathan Top found the ball in the opposition’s box and took a shot on goal. Obering was able to get his hands to the shot, but the force behind the kick kept the ‘keeper from holding the ball as it bounced off his hands and into the goal.

Second half substitute Bryan Leyva scored FCD’s third goal of the day. Top found Leyva in the center of the box from the left flank and FC Dallas’ first Home Grown signing chipped a shot just over the head of Colorado’s ‘keeper and into the back of the net.

With a three-goal lead FC Dallas subbed in backup ‘keeper Bryan Landazury for Eduardo Cortes in the 60th minute. Real Colorado gave the replacement net-minder virtually no time to get settled before they pulled back a goal in the 63rd minute.

FC Dallas substitute striker Victor Pinal mustered a couple more chances on goal before the end of the match, but Obering saved both shots to hold the score line at 3-1.

The win made the FC Dallas U-18s the winners of their playoff group, thus securing one of eight spots at USSDA Finals Week next month. Finals Week will take place from July 9-16 at three different venues in Milwaukee.
