FCDallas.com: Did you have any idea you would be selected by FC Dallas going into today?

Bobby Warshaw: My agent had mentioned it as a possibility.  He said they asked questions and thought that I had done well at the Combine, so that was the first tip-off.  Other than that, I had no idea.  I actually read last night as well, in Sports Illustrated somewhere that they needed a center back and a defensive midfielder.  Those two things, when it got to pick number 17, I started to get a little more anxious.

FCDallas.com: What excites you the most about joining FC Dallas?

Warshaw: It’s a good team.  The fact that they were right there, I’m excited to go to a good team that plays good soccer with good players and a little momentum going into the new season.  I’d love to win and get that championship.

FCDallas.com: Do you know any of the guys currently on the team?

Warshaw: I played on some youth national teams with Peri Marosevic.  We roomed together at our last one right before college.  I’ve played against Andrew Wiedeman.  I’ve played against Brek Shea a little bit, and George John in college.  I played against Avi [Eric Avila] in college.

FCDallas.com: I know you said you’ve been to Dallas before, talk about when you were in Dallas and why.

Warshaw: When I was 16, 17 and maybe 18 for Dallas Cup I went down with FC Delco for about a week.  My mom is a political science professor and I’m a political science major, so all three years we went to the JFK museum and memorial.  I like the city.  I have a bunch of friends on the Stanford team from Dallas and they love it.  They say it’s a great place to be, so I can’t wait to get there.  I can’t wait to see the town, to play for the team, to meet the people.

FCDallas.com: How would you describe yourself as a player?

Warshaw: A passionate guy who reads the game.  I’ll leave it at that, keep it simple.

FCDallas.com: Talk about getting the chance to play for MLS Coach of the Year Schellas Hyndman.

Warshaw: It’s awesome, isn’t it?  It’s awesome.  A guy who wants his players to express themselves, who wants his players to play soccer.  I’m excited to be under his guidance, under his tutoring.  I’m looking forward to getting down there and working hard for him.

FCDallas.com: You'll also be playing with Daniel Hernandez, the team captain and similar in position to you.

Warshaw: I couldn’t be in a better position.  To have a veteran there, from what I hear a fantastic guy and a good player.  At this point it’s my job to go in and work hard and learn everything I can and just soak up everything he’s willing to teach.

FCDallas.com: How fulfilling is it to finally be a professional soccer player? What does it mean to you?

Warshaw: It’s wild.  You walk in and there are fans and everyone watching and it’s just a wild, wild experience.

FCDallas.com: And you said you grew up watching MLS?

Warshaw: I’ve been a huge MLS fan my whole life.  I can remember before they were FC Dallas and Dave Dir was the head coach, so it’s very exciting.  I’m so happy to be here and I’m going to work hard to do my best and win some games.
