FRISCO, Texas — David Ferreira's inclusion in MLS Best XI surprised no one, but that didn’t mean the FC Dallas playmaker wasn’t humbled by the honor.
The Colombian midfielder, who acts as the engine that drives FCD’s attack, finished the regular season with eight goals and 13 assists, and has been a key contributor in the team’s run to their first-ever MLS Cup on Sunday night in Toronto. (8:30 pm ET, ESPN, Galavisión)
“It’s an honor,” he said through an interpreter on Wednesday. “There are so many great players here and to be one of 11 honored at the end of the year and [it's great to be] recognized for the work I put in on the field. Hopefully I can finish on a higher note this Sunday.”

FCD head coach Schellas Hyndman believes his star midfielder was a shoo-in for the select group of MLS players.
“I think if you’re a candidate for MVP, they’ve got to put you in there,” the FCD manager said. “If you don’t get the MVP and you don’t get the Best XI, that’s an insult. [Ferreira’s inclusion is] a tribute to everything he’s done for the success of this team.”

“With the help of God, hopefully on Friday, they will announce David Ferreira as the MVP,” Ferreira said. “It’s just another piece of the puzzle for the kind of season I’ve been having, so, I am really hoping for that to happen.”
For Ferreira’s teammates, there’s no doubt he should be named the 2010 MVP.
“I have no doubt in my mind he deserves it,” FCD captain Daniel Hernandez said. “It would be a disaster if he didn’t get that MVP. He’s been a huge part of our success this year. He’s a great player but most importantly, I think he’s a great person.”
When Ferreira came to Frisco on loan in February 2009 from Brazilian side Atlético Paranaense, he had high expectations. But even he admits things have gone even better than he ever could have imagined.
“Yeah, I wasn’t expecting this to happen,” admitted Ferreira. “I came over here to help the team in any way I could. But I never expected this kind of season. It’s far above the expectations I had.”
