Road games are never an easy task in MLS, but the dynamic fans at Qwest Field in Seattle make it a notoriously tough place for any side to play.

FC Dallas made the trip west for a July 11th matchup that saw two streaks collide.  FCD were on a four-game unbeaten streak at the time, and the Sounders came in having lost three straight matches.  Seattle manager Sigi Schmid injected his starting XI with some youth in hopes of getting the club off of their unwelcome streak.

The lineup shuffle appeared to be a stroke of genius, as Seattle took an early 1-0 lead off a strike by Fredy Montero in the 14th minute.  But youth also equaled inexperience when, in the 56th minute, 19-year-old Miguel Montano was shown a red card for a reckless tackle on Brek Shea.

With the man advantage, FC Dallas spent the rest of the match on the attack. However, despite FCD’s relentless press it looked like Seattle’s veteran goalkeeper Kasey Keller was going to lead his side out of the match with the full three points.

But in true MVP fashion, Dallas’ David Ferreira worked a give-and-go with defender Heath Pearce and scored the tying goal with three minutes remaining in regulation.  Ferreira’s clutch goal stole a point in the standings for FC Dallas, and took two away from Western Conference opponents Seattle.

It also cemented FC Dallas’ status as a team that could get a result any time, anywhere en route to breaking the MLS record for a road unbeaten streak. They’ll need that confidence this weekend more than ever when they head to Salt Lake for the second leg of their Western Conference semifinal.
