FCD continues Charity Challenge vs. LA

FRISCO, Texas (Oct. 22, 2010) – FC Dallas President and CEO Doug Quinn has challenged Los Angeles Galaxy President of Business Operations Tom Payne to a winner-take-all wager benefitting either the Cancer Support Community of North Texas or Wilmington Bridges, the club announced today.

The two teams meet at The Home Depot Center in Carson, California Sunday evening at 7 p.m. Central Time.

FC Dallas and the Galaxy will know exactly what is on the line prior to kickoff Sunday. Should Real Salt Lake earn three points against the Rapids in Colorado on Saturday, FC Dallas would have the opportunity to spoil the Galaxy’s Supporters’ Shield dreams on Sunday. The Galaxy (17-7-5, 56 points) currently lead Real Salt Lake (15-4-10, 55 points) by a single point in the race for the best record in MLS this season.

Even if the Supporters’ Shield race has been decided prior to kickoff, the result of FC Dallas’ match against Los Angeles will determine the winner of the final “Get In and Win Charity Challenge” of the regular season. An FC Dallas victory would send four 2011 FC Dallas season tickets to the Cancer Support Community of North Texas courtesy of Payne. A victory for the Galaxy would mean Quinn will purchase four 2011 Los Angeles season tickets for Wilmington Bridges.

Quinn’s “Get In and Win Charity Challenge” has already earned 22 FC Dallas season tickets for local charities. The latest donation came last weekend when Quinn and Real Salt Lake President Bill Manning agreed to donate four tickets each to the opposing team’s charity of choice. Quinn donated four 2011 Real Salt Lake season tickets to the United Way of Salt Lake while Manning sent four 2011 FC Dallas season tickets to the Cancer Support Community of North Texas.

The charity challenge began by donating four 2011 season tickets to the Frisco Miracle League, courtesy of Quinn’s childhood friend and Chivas USA President Shawn Hunter. The two wagered the charitable donation on the outcome of the Aug. 21 match between their two sides, which saw Dallas finish on top 1-0. Dallas continued its hot streak by breaking the all-time MLS record for a road unbeaten streak with a draw in Columbus on Aug. 28. Following the match, Quinn donated four 2011 season tickets to Lift Up America. Quinn then sent the Dallas branch of Dress for Success two 2011 season tickets as FC Dallas defeated Toronto FC 1-0 on Sept. 4.

The team extended its unbeaten streak with three consecutive draws against San Jose, Red Bull New York and the New England Revolution, but was unable to cash in for the Frisco Family YMCA until Sept. 25 when FCD defeated the Kansas City Wizards 3-1. Dallas defeated the Chicago Fire 3-0 at Pizza Hut Park to cement its place in the 2010 MLS Cup Playoffs. That victory secured four FC Dallas 2011 season tickets for the Dallas League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) courtesy of Chicago Technical Director Frank Klopas.
