Dallas wary of New York's Ángel

FRISCO, Texas — Schellas Hyndman doesn’t like to mince words. That’s why when he was asked about New York striker Juan Pablo Ángel after practice on Wednesday morning, he spoke his mind about the Colombian forward.

“He’s been an absolute thorn in FC Dallas’ side,” Hyndman said. "He’s such a good player."

In three career games against the Texas side, Ángel has found the back of the net five times. That includes a two-goal performance against FCD the last time these sides met back on April 17, when New York prevailed 2-1 at Red Bull Arena.

While the Red Bulls have a true Colombian star in Ángel, FCD have a three-player contingent from the South American country in defender Jair Benitez, midfielder David Ferreira and forward Milton Rodríguez.

“I think we’ve got a good group of international players, in particular the three Colombians,” Hyndman said. "They’ve all been adding something to our team for sure."

All three players know Ángel well from their time playing with him on the Colombian National Team. Benítez, the starting left back, has been solid defensively but has also contributed going forward with two assists in 2010.

“He knows where to be in order to score goals," Benítez, through an interpreter, said of Ángel. “That’s one of his strengths. We have to be really focused on him and not give him any chances. If we give him a chance, he’ll score a goal against us.”

Said Ferreira: “He’s one of those players that if he has one chance, he will score and make you pay. We’re going to have to be really careful with him and mark him well because he’s one of those players that is not just standing in one spot. He’s moving all over the place."
