Game Intro

This Western Conference contest features two clubs on opposite ends of the standings. Chivas USA continue to bring up the rear in the West and have won just twice in their last 10 league matches.

FCD, on the other hand, increased their unbeaten streak in league play to 10 games with an impressive 3-1 win at D.C. United last weekend, the club’s first win at RFK Stadium since May 2005. FCD are 5-1-3 at home this season. Their lone loss came to the West-leading Galaxy back on May 20.

FC Dallas

With a 6-0-4 record in their last 10 games and currently riding a two-game winning streak, Schellas Hyndman’s club continues to push ever so closer to the playoffs. And they now head into their final 10 games with a valuable offensive weapon off the bench: Jeff Cunningham. The veteran striker has three goals in FCD’s last two games, giving him seven on the year. He is four goals behind DC’s Jaime Moreno for the top spot on the league’s career goal list.

Chivas USA

Despite their last-place spot in the Western Conference, the Red-and-White haven't played terribly since they last saw FC Dallas on June 26. They're 1-0-1 on the road since then, inlcuding an impressive 3-1 win over Columbus on July 31. They also played defending MLS Cup champions Real Salt Lake to a 1-1 draw at Rio Tinto Stadium on July 24.

Heroes and Villains

Cunningham vs. the Chivas USA back line: The wily veteran striker has played in just 11 career matches against the Red-and-White, but has five goals and two assists in those games. Cunningham should come off the bench on Saturday and could provide a spark similar to what he did in FCD’s last two wins, when he had a total of three goals.

Stat that makes you go “Hmm"

It has been 15 games since FCD has allowed a team to score multiple goals. That came on April 22 in a 2-2 draw to Seattle. FCD started the year by allowing multiple goals in three of their first four games.
