Match Recap: FCD 2, San Jose 0

Brek Shea energized a sluggish attack with two goals in the span of two minutes on Saturday night as FC Dallas topped the visiting San Jose Earthquakes 2-0 at Pizza Hut Park.

After a somewhat lethargic first half for both sides, Shea put the hosts on top in the 58th minute. The youngster finished off a nifty set-up from David Ferreira, who took a pass from Heath Pearce and took off down the left flank and to the San Jose touchline.

The cross pass found Shea, who hammered home the goal past San Jose veteran Joe Cannon, who had kept the Quakes in the match much of the first half.

Shea struck again almost instantly, but this one was all his own. After a lofty through ball from Pearce was misplayed by San Jose’s Chris Leitch just inside the box, Shea pounced and eventually flicked a right-footed shot past a surging Cannon for his third tally of the season.

San Jose struggled mightily on offense much of the night, and relied heavily on three big saves from Cannon just to keep FC Dallas at bay before Shea’s offensive outburst.

San Jose head coach Frank Yallop made several changes to his starting lineup from Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Columbus at Buck Shaw Stadium. In the back, Leitch replaced Steven Beitashour and Ike Opara replaced Bobby Burling in the starting lineup.

Scott Sealy earned the start in place of Ryan Johnson, while Arturo Alvarez played as a withdrawn forward and Chris Wondolowski went into the midfield.

The changes, though, failed to pan out. FC Dallas outshot the Quakes 9-3 in the first half, and effectively gave goalkeeper Kevin Hartman a night off in a resounding win after a sluggish 1-1 draw with Chicago on May 27.
