2020: Nelson appeared in 11 MLS matches (started in 8), played 848 minutes. Recorded his first professional assist in the MLS on September 19 vs. Sporting Kansas City on the road in a 3-2 victory. Made his MLS Playoff debut vs. Portland Timbers on November 22. Started and played 58 minutes in the Conference Semi Final vs. Seattle Sounders.
2019: Appeared in nine MLS matches (started in four) for FC Dallas this season, played 451 minutes. Made his MLS debut in his home state of Ohio on March 16 vs. Columbus Crew SC after he subbed in the 74th minute. Started in his first MLS game and played the full 90-minutes on May 11 vs. New York Red Bulls. Started in seven regular season matches for North Texas Soccer Club, scored one goal and one assist in 630 minutes. Scored his first professional goal in the 22nd minute vs. Orlando City B on September 6. Recorded his first professional assist in the USL League One Semifinal on October 12 vs. Forward Madison. Was part of the USL League One Final North Texas Soccer Club Starting XI. North Texas beat Greenville Triumph 1-0 on October 19.
Nelson played two seasons with North Carolina starting in 41 matches for the Tar Heels. He was named to the 2017 All-ACC Freshman team and named to the second-team All-ACC member during his sophomore year. The Ohio-native is a Generations Adidas player.
Nelson has been called up to U.S. youth national teams and competed in the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.
